Well Visits from 13 to 17 years of age
At around 13 years of age we encourage our patients to begin to visit with their pediatrician without a parent present in the room for at least part of the visit. This helps an adolescent to start to take responsibility for his own health, and allows a patient to share concerns that she may not be able to share while a parent is present. We continue to seek input, concerns and questions from parents about their child , and encourage the sharing of information between parents and teens. While we know that legally a child under 18 is considered a minor, there are some discussions between adolescents and their doctors that are considered confidential in the state of Massachusetts, and thus, by law we are not allowed to divulge this information without permission from your adolescent.
Well Visits for young adults 18-22 years of age
Here at Pediatric Medical Care, Inc. we are happy to continue to see our young adult patients through 22 years of age. These visits are considered fully confidential and the patient does not require the permission of a parent to obtain a diagnosis or treatment. We cannot share information about visits with your young adult unless we have been granted permission by them.
